Electric Poems

£10.00

Wednesday 28 October

9PM

An hour of evocative, atmospheric electronic music.

Two classics: Varèse’s Poème électronique- a ‘poem in a bottle’- was made for the Philips Pavilion at the 1958 Brussels World’s Fair. Varèse’s aim was to liberate sound, using noises not usually considered "musical".

Ligeti’s Artikulation lasts just under four minutes, but it ‘packs a lot of drama in its diminutive electronic frame’.  Ligeti himself imagined the sounds conjuring up images and ideas of labyrinths, texts, dialogues, insects, catastrophes, transformations, disappearances…

Two pieces by Dominic Muldowney- ‘Nocturnal’ and ‘Mr Dampier, his Dompe’- evoke the sounds of New York at night and the Australian outback.
