Beyond Borders

27 June - 5 July 2026

Beyond Borders is a project developed through a decade-long artistic dialogue between Folkestone (UK) and Dunkirk (France). This project reflects on how artistic relationships form, evolve and endure across national, linguistic and cultural borders.

Positioned between two coastal cities facing each other across the Channel, the project brings together video, photography, and performance produced between 2016 and 2026. Anchored in language and gesture, these works explore what quietly persists between places, moments of silence, absence and attention, allowing personal experience to open onto shared, resonant space.

Based in Dunkirk, France, Elodie Merland works across performance, video, photography, sculpture and installation, with a particular focus on public space and site-responsive practice. Alongside her long-term engagement with Folkestone, her work has been presented internationally, including exhibitions and festivals in France, Belgium and the United Kingdom.

Since 2016, Folkestone has been central to the development of her practice, not as a single residency site but as a place of repeated encounters, shared projects and long-term collaboration with artists, curators and artist-run initiatives.
